    I usually make French onion soup, but I tried the original, which is an old Tuscan recipe. The key is a heavy pan and a half hour sauté of the red onions, very low, no browning!

    Nothing like a comforting hot bowl of soup on a cold winter's day, so your French onion soup sounds great! A wee tip when you're doing the French version, add a dash of dry sherry to the pan for extra richness and flavour!

    Oh, and proper French onion soup should always be served with nice cheesy croutons....
