Shame that, mate. But it's better being safe than sorry.
My old man still drives up to Scotland himself (266 miles from Wrexham, to the door of his brother in Erskine), and he'll be 88 in May, and sometimes he does it without a stop. But ONLY because he knows the way like the back of his hand, and just goes into 'auto pilot'.
He wouldn't have a hope of doing the same journey somewhere else, where he had to find where he was going, following road signs or a sat-nav, But yes concentration/awareness levels in older people, IMO, (next to eyesight and judgement of space) is their main failure and where things go notably downhill compared with when they were younger.
In that respect, I've always said that once passed the age of 65 you should be made to sit a test every five years, to prove your proficiency and retain your license, and at 80 and above every two years. However, in general, it's younger folks who cause most of the accidents!

not middle class here, and niether are asda or aldi, or tesco really. Morrisons often has a slightly more middle class clientele.. not that we have a whole lot of middle classes here; most I guess go out of town to M&S or Sainsburys etc. When i was able to go out i did a lot of different places. Sainsbury is my fav shop for shopping as I can get parked close, and the bays have a space at rear for unloading my scooter, making it much safer. also the ailes are nice and wide,
Down know about elsewhere, but Lidl is very middle class down here in the south. If you want to see chavs in all their glory, Asda’s the place to go!

oddly my driving skills are still pretty good, but that may be as i drove sort of professionally(ie, a lot in different vehicles etc) .. concentration isnt an issue for me, just that my hip gets sore quite quickly. judging distances etc are fine but i do need driving glasses as my long distance is slightly blurred now. not too bad but i need them. Never had an accident against me in nearing 50 yrs driving. Not had a parking or speeding ticket either. and i used to regularly drive over 400mls a day.
if i ever feel im not driving as well as i can or used to, i will give it up.
