Yet they didn't do that well in Which? taste test. I think brand identity has a lot to do with their popularity. It's a name everyone knows and associates with quality
I found a long time ago that I prefer Branston's beans, but Anita gets Heinz for simplicity as her dopey son won't eat any other brand. If it was up to me he could sod off and sort his own buying and cooking, preferably somewhere else.
