Indeed - everything has a place that you like the taste of!

I also find 'palates' a fascinating thing [the foods and flavours you tend to enjoy most], and which are developed largely from the food you've been brought up with, or how adventurous/well travelled you are [in terms of visiting foregin lands and tying their local cuisine], and which is ably reflected here by the types of food folks post pics of, all of which I find rather interesting.

Ice cold from the fridge so the olive oil is yellow.

Crazy salty but two or three can be enjoyable by themselves.

Generally I don't buy them but once in a while I do.

I don't think they are an acquired taste, though. You're either gonna like them or not.

Lol - no wonder around 90% of Scotland's *world class quality* fish and seafood is exported abroad to people who appreciate it!

It's an interesting one though, we live on an island, surrounded by water, and yet the vast majority of us [read as Brits] dislike, and so don't eat, seafood

For me, it's an education thing as much as anything else [and I'm not saying that this applies to you or anyone else on AoS], but if you don't know what to do with seafood, i.e. how to prepare or cook it, then you'll a) never have tasted it properly, or b) likely rarely have eaten it, in order to form any proper opinion on it at all.

The other thing of course, which I think is totally wrong, is how expensive it is compared with most meats, and so what we're charged for it in shops. Therefore, the fact that it's expensive to buy is also a big factor towards what puts people of from cooking it. It's on our doorstep, FFS, so it SHOULD be available more more cheaply!

For a European though, it's a strange thing to observe: food that's indigenous to our shores being largely shunned by the local population, as in almost any other country, the locals (gladly) eat what their waters provide, as a regular part of their diet. I know that's certainly the case in the likes of Italy, France, Spain and Greece, when it comes to fish and seafood.

Just an interesting one to ponder though - the whole food culture thing here in the UK, and what drives it....

Lol... The curries thing is interesting, as I wouldn't have thought parents of your generation would've been exposed to such, so what was going on there? I know even my dad never tasted curry until I ordered a takeaway, sometime in the late 70s, and he hated it!

He loves (a mild one) now, though
