A new one today and a very recent purchase.

    Tomintoul 12 Oloroso cask finish.
    This has a lovely hue.

Nose has sherry, nutty pecans and maybe a minute bit of putty.
Nice creamy Toffee along with fruit cake. Quite buttery.
Longish finish which is controlled but satisfying.
Rather good for a 12yr old.
    My first impressions tho
    Regards,
    Grant .... ؠ

    Another new opening today.
    Tamdhu 12yr old sherry cask.
Tamdhu have been using sherry casks since their beginnings. Always AFAIK Oloroso casks.
Think this distillery is owned by same family that has glengoyne, the McLeods.

Orange, cinnamon and sherried peels on nose to start, and in mouth, which is lovely and juicy, banana, orange again followed again by sherry, and spices. finish is medium and not too burning.. this is very, very moreish.. you could easily drink the bottle
at under 40 a bottle; and the bottle is very nice too, its a veritable bargain.

    Glen Grant 15 tonight.
    50 ABV!
I believe it is un chill filtered.
No sherry or Bourbon cask finish , just a glorious tasting old school scotch .
Most likely aged in European oak. So much fruit and toffee and a little pumpkin spice on the finish.
I could just sit and sniff it all night, this is by far the best 12 to 15 year old bottle you could ever hope for.
I thought the Glen Grant 12 was good but this is amazing.
I am sorry this bottle in the U.S. or any thing Glen Grant here is very, very hard to find, this one was a holiday special $55.00 and well worth $100.00 in my humble opinion.
Glad to have gotten one, and met a nice older couple from Scotland that moved here 20 years ago, they said they lived very near the Fettercarin Distillery. I was happy to know of some of the distilleries she talked about like Talisker another of her favorites.Grant has taught me well.
She said she is partial to Laphroaig quarter cask.
Marco would hate this, NO CARAMEL COLOR ADDED. No finish casking. No Bull Shit ,Honest 50 ABV. dram.
CORRECTION: It was aged in an ex Bourbon cask.

Our Governor has destroyed so many businesses Ca. has been the most restrictive state of all 50. School is zoom meetings and no youth sports have been allowed.
Yet his kids are going to school privatively, all wineries where closed yet his never shut down and people are very upset.
There was more parties and kids out than ever before. Pent up people just wanting to move on with their lives.
BTW The Dewar's was far better than I expected ,I always thought of them as a budget blend but the 15 is very good, there is defiantly some grains mixed in but not to it's undoing.
It was a little more peat forward then J.W. Green label but not a peat bomb by any standard.
Never had a Japanese whiskey, Grant what do you think of it?
