I had the 12 year. He has several different bottles but the 12 was opened. Did you know they make a 27 year? You need 36 month financing to buy a bottle.

I have had few few good wines, the best was a 1961 BV . It was very dry and red.
I like Red dry wines with pasta and sometimes red meat ,like steak but a few times a year.
I am more of a malt guy. I like lager, pilsner and hefeweizen beers, Whiskeys of all stripes and a hand full of Rums. Don't care for Gin,Vodka,Tequila or liquors.
The wine bug never bit, and I don't live far from Napa Valley. This is my favorite red. In the little town of Plymouth they make this outstanding red wine. There Sarah is my favorite but I will drink their Barbera it is slightly sweet but good. https://www.wine.com/product/terra-d...a-2017/525706#

It used to be called the Montavina winery but after winning a lot of awards the same family changed the name to Terra Deoro .
It is well regarded and there better vintages are around $40.00 a bottle but it gets bought up very fast so it pays to be a member of the winery.( The members go back 20 years or more and get to taste and buy wines before they are sold to suppliers). I know one of there members and have been to their tastings a couple times even back in the Monitavina days so I usually get a couple really good bottles a year.
If a wine is to sweet it is a real turn off for me, so I rarely order more than a glass to taste it first. If I like it I'll get a bottle or carafe.

No worries, just wondered. For me red wine (especially) is a drink simply to accompany food, particularly a nice juicy steak!

I never drink red wine on its own, white wine only occasionally on its own, but only in the summer, well chilled, ditto rosé. Malt whisky is a different ball game, in that respect, and doesn't require the intake of food to be enjoyed.

So maybe tell us next time when you open a bottle of red? In terms of the bit in bold about beer, I'd like to hear more about that... Remember that this is a beer thread, just as much as a wine and whisky one!

And I *love* proper (authentic) American beers and lagers

Your last statement makes me really miss the late 70's and most of the 80's. The best American beer days where both before and during the Beer wars. The Budweiser,Shlitz ,Coors, Michelob, Papst, Miller ,Olympia where amazing beers as good as the micro brew stuff being sold at much higher prices today. The beer wars ended in 2 winners Bud and Coors . Also the at the same time the desire of these companies to go international meant huge changes had to happen in the way these beers where brewed. Bud and Shlitz where the top 2 beers West coast and East coast favorites. Bud made the move to go international increasing it's market through out the world.
Shlitz had a huge problem their union workers refused to get in line with the idea of changing the refinery to produce more beer and went on strike. The strike lasted just long enough the company had lost some of it's market and what happened next no one saw coming Stroh's came out of no where to buy Shlitz then gutted the company and used the name to sell absolute swill.

In the huge effort to go from a national brand to an international icon Bud had to step up production on a massive scale ,this means speeding up the brewing process adding defoamers then adding something else to remove them near the end of the process, Bud changed through the 80's and so did Coors they where the big winners but the beer is not the same as what it was. https://www.foodandwine.com/drinks/t...-won-beer-wars

Moving to today, this has caused a glut of small micro brewerys, some go away others pop up, there are new beers every day by new brewers. In Ca. you would go crazy just trying to keep up with who makes what, what is the popular beer this week. In a sea of micro brews made locally, I choose German and Belgian brews because the trend is IPA, Double IPA and even triple IPA's. Lager's and Pilsners are not the rage right now.
I like a IPA made by Strike it's called the two seam 6.5% alcohol . Strike make another IPA that is close to 9% ! but it dose not have the same taste.
So I get imports when I can and drink Stella and Heineken most the time and look for German Beers when I go to Bevmo but they are like a treat.
