Thumbs up *Heads up again for bargain top-notch wines from Aldi*

Ok chaps and chap-esses, if you haven't been to your local Aldi yet to snaffle up the stupidly cheap Amarone I mentioned last time, then hurry hurry Mrs Murray, and get along there while stocks last, plus also to snap up these babies, which I've just done....

Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC, for a silly £7.99: https://www.aldi.co.uk/exquisite-val...56437181737000

Top quality Côtes du Rhône Villages, for a daft £6.99: https://www.aldi.co.uk/henri-dubois-...18961315412300

And an even bigger bargain, a lovely Bouches du Rhône, for a crazy £4-89: https://www.aldi.co.uk/eug%C3%A8ne-s...13207281311600

St Émilion Grand Cru 2016, none the less, for a stupidly low £10.99: https://www.aldi.co.uk/ch%C3%A2teau-...85240246526800

Now *that one* REALLY is a Billy Bargain. Think nearer £20 a bottle elsewhere...!

    Stonking, top-quality Pinot Grigio (attention Roy-Boy!) for a lowly £5.49: https://www.aldi.co.uk/exquisite-pin...84657253123001

That will wipe the floor with your usual one from Asda (is it?)!

And another good one for Christmas, to enjoy with your almond biscotti, a lovely 10-year old Tawny port, for a practically stealing-it-off-the-shelves price of only £10.99: https://www.aldi.co.uk/10-year-old-t...12316306698300

So.... Don't miss out - get yer arses in gear over to yer nearest Aldi!

I'm in town (London) on Monday to visit the museum of London (they have a Clash exhibition on - free entry!) & then popping to the Royal Exchange (trading in a Panerai for a ladies Rolex for a Xmas prezzie) so I'll be parking near Aldi to get the train (also free ), I'll definitely grab some of that pinot!

    I like a Merlot

Just took in a bit more of your post Marco, like the look of the Valpolicella & Cotes du Rhone as well.

    Also like Montepulciano & Sangiovese.

Trust me, mate, they're all top-notch wines, at the very minimum £3-4 less than they'd be elsewhere, and in some cases up to £10 less. Don't know how they do it - most likely buying up large quantities of limited production wines from small producers, which they'll get a good deal on

If you like Rhône wines, then the Bouches du Rhône, in particular is just bonkers value at under a fiver, as it's an £8-9 wine anywhere else, for that quality. It'll be lovely and soft and fruity. The Côtes du Rhône Villages will be on similar lines, but have much more structure and finesse.

The Valpolicella will be very different from either of those, smoother and much more full-bodied. However, now I know you like Merlot and Sangiovese, I'll see what reccos I can come up with!

Very nice. The '92 in particular should be stonkingly good, but the 2003 should prove 'adequate'

What are you having it with, and most importantly, I presume you'll be decanting it first? Musar pretty much always has some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. I always leave it standing upright for and hour or so before decanting, to allow the sediment to settle, which make it separate more and easier to extract

Just bought three bottles of Whisky to see me through winter.

Amrut Fusion. An interesting Indian whisky, which was highly rated by Jim Murray back in 2010. One I have been wanting to try for a while. https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskie...fusion-whisky/

A bottle of Bruichladdich PC10. Getting difficult to find, but wanted one based on the reputation. https://distiller.com/spirits/port-c...ro-na-linntean

A 12 YO Fettercairn, because it looked interesting. https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/...rn-12-year-old

All three should have a different flavour and character. Looking forwards to a cold winter evening in front of a log fire, with some tunes playing to sample them.
