Andrew, thanks...and interesting view, and I do understand what you are saying. I did look this, my first deck the K-1 Was based on two isolated plinths one granite the other wood. It was okay but far to fussy and quite frankly not worth the effort in making and the setting up, the goal is to listen to my records and hear the music.
Personally, as a mechanical engineer I've learned one common factor when it comes to mechanisms....simple is efficient.. there are so many variables involved in playing a vinyl record as we are all aware that I feel reducing the number of those variables must be a plus. So in this case I went for simple "mass" and lots of it lol Acrylic and some aluminium weighing in at nearly 10kg. The deck shelf is bolted directly to the house brickwork. The control box removes any transformer vibes and the rest is all shielded.
I have checked the motor/deck when it's running and there is all but zero vibration or rumble through to the platter. The vinyl sits on heavy rubber platter that in turn sits on a felt layer.
For me.. the sound that it produces far exceeds my expectations for what this deck cost to build. And I love the way it looks unbiased as I am...
    Cheers,

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

thats a thing of beauty Karl. My Denon Dp80 came with a heavy rubber mat that I believe has a different material inside it. Personally it doesn't sound as good as the copper mat I use, if you get the chance to try a copper or gunmetal mat give it a try. I assume the control box is separate from the plinth, what feet are you using?

Paul, Yes the control box is totally independent, and the feet on the deck are 25mm Perspex turned to a spike and 6mm thread for level adjustment. The control box has 16mm spikes, also adjustable to match the deck height if required.
