    Default DAC newbie question

Hi guys , I have a question regarding the use of a Dac ,it will be used at times to connect my PS4 to an amp but mainly for watching/listening to music videos on YouTube and VEVO via my smart tv or PS4 to the amp.
It must have an optical input.
My question is ; is it really worth buying a good/expensive DAC for this purpose?

    Thanks in advance clever people.

Beresfords go for £100-£150 and they are very popular. There is a whole section of the forum devoted to overclocking (?) Them.

I've just bought a DAC for use with a laptop and it's made a huge difference to the sound. I'm very pleased with my purchase. It doesn't have an optical input hence the lack of promoting it.

I had a Spitfire MkII for a while, sound was good, and in a tiny box about 125mm IIRC

ou might slip, you might slide, you might
Stumble and fall by the road side
But don't you ever let nobody drag your spirit down
Remember you're walking up to heaven

Don't let nobody turn you around
… Walk with the rich, walk with the poor
Learn from everyone, that's what life is for
And don't you let nobody drag your spirit down

The Caiman SEG will make a huge difference to the sound you are currently getting from your CD. The amount of info that is embedded in a CD exceeds the amount of info that most D/A converters have been able to extract for decades. But things have been changing in the last year or two, with the Caiman leading the way as far as cost versus performance is concerned.

+1 for the SEG.. and ASFAIK it doubles as a pre and headphone amp... and I would probably own one if import duties and shipping weren't that high...
