Took a punt on one of these off the bay. Anyone used one or similar?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yeah, not sure it will do anything tbh. I've no problem with noise, the Tandberg has no hiss I can detect. Thought it was worth a punt at the price though,

Try it with vinyl Ali. Some older records include tape hiss from the original master tape. Could be an interesting experiment.

Don't think it will work with straight vinyl play as it is a compander, similar to DBX products.

I had to look it up, it compresses the signal dynamic range for recording and then expands it back again on playback, for those who are unfamiliar with what a compander does.

So I'd have to play back through it any recordings I make using it?

Yes you would Ali. My brother had a DBX years ago but I never heard what it could do. He liked it.

Me either. Thought it was worth a punt though. Seems a pretty rare beast too.

Ah. Didn't realise it was a compander. I assumed it was a noise reducer similar to the old Garrard MRM.
