“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Some may be unhappy to see a vintage bit of gear cannibalised. Not me though . The arm is probably quite decent and could be useful used with a separate armlift.

Looks a bit like it, but the other one had a height adjustment collar I think. Not that it's a problem here, just employ a spacer! (as in thick stuff, not weird person )

My uncle had the full music centre from the same era - pretty much the same but with tape deck as well. It was actually very good (and very expensive when new) and came with some large 3 way speakers that were a lot like the JBL L100 Century. Hi-Fi World featured one in their Olde Worlde section 5 or 6 years ago, albeit without the speakers. Asked my uncle about it last time I saw him but turned out he had skipped it all some years previously.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

    Hi Karma

Massive long shot as this is a v. old post. But do you still have this Sony HP-115a system kicking around or or pull spares from it? I'm after a selector knob (missing) and facia panel (worn) as I've just picked one up and using it as my main system.

Or if there are any reccomendations for getting vintage Sony spares, happy to hear them

    Many thanks
