    Default Hello from Birmingham...

Hi folks. Just a quick note to say hello. I use a technics 1210 which is a relic of my misspent youth, arcam rdac, arcam fmja19 and kef ls50's. Love love love my hifi as it is but I'm afraid one of my good friends has just bought a pair of audiolab 8200mb and my eyes have been opened to a whole new world. I listen to a indie/dance mostly from 90s but a little bit of new stuff too. Looking to make some upgrades to my system as funds allow and would welcome any advice...eg can I just buy some audiolab monoblocks or will they make my speakers explode?!

    Hello Jon. Welcome to AOS.

There's nothing wrong with your system. The Arcam amp should be decent enough. The Audiolab monos will sound different and be more powerful, but I'd not assume that the sound quality will be better.

Why not start a thread in the Blank Canvas area and outline your ideas. I'm sure you'll get some useful opinions.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
