Cool Goldbug Mr Brier is smokin

Just taken delivery of a Goldbug Mr Brier from Dom at Northwest Analogue.
He fitted a new cantilever and stylus and checked out coils and suspension - everything working as per spec.

It comes with an integral headshell allowing for overhang and azimuth adjustment and was an absolute breeze to setup in my Jelco 750.
The headshell even mimics the outline of the OEM Jelco including finger lift position so using the Jelco setup protractor was a cinch.
I've learned from old to use the oem Jelco null points.

Tracking is sure and stable at 1.5g VTF and 0.5-1.0 bias is spot on.

So how does it sound? Absolutely marvellous. It's the sound/tone/presentation I've been after for years but never quite achieved. Combines (to my ears) all the qualities I like from other "mainstream" cartridges I've owned but which were all a compromise in some areas.

Bass is deep, solid and detailed , midrange is sweet and the highs are extended but not glassy/bright. Frequency response sounds flat with no obvious lift at any frequency. There is a wealth of detail and it feels like I could listen for hours without "fatigue". In short I'm very very pleased and it will improve with a few hours on it.

So with my existing DH103 from Dom and the brier I'm pretty much sorted

Glad you found something that suits Steve.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    Thanks Geoff
I've still got my (cracked) Zyx R100 and an AKG P8ES supernova (currently on my TD150) in addition to the highly modified 103 from Dom

The brier really is a bit special

In addition to the wonderful sonics I think the Brier is a great visual match for the Technics/Jelco

    YMMV of course
