I never watch that bollox now... It was marginally tolerable in the 70s, but since then has deteriorated into nothing more than a showcase for tuneless, mind-numbing drivel and banal gay anthems, not to mention a source for expressing political protest, through music, highlighting just how unpopular the UK is in many other parts of Europe, which is precisely why they always do so badly in the competition!

Such is level of dislike for the UK, in many of the competing countries (and these days what Britain stands for politically), you could reunite The Beatles (including the dead ones) to produce a UK entry for the competition, and it would still end up in the bottom three!!

How true. I just don't get the insane optimism that we are going to do well this year .....or any year for that matter.

    I didn't watch it either
I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist - he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I'm not sure if he even played the guitar - he played music. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

When I was about eight I wanted to watch Von Ryan's Express but my sister and her friends exiled me to the attic, as Eurovision was on. I cried alone as Sinatra was shot in the back.

I suppose if we do all vote to leave Europe next month the only benefit would be that we might not be obliged to compete, but then again I think Australia were in it this year, so I guess even that wouldn't work.

In fairness he does piss about way too long in getting back on the frigging train. I remember watching that around the same age and thinking he bloody well asked for it.

I'll never forget his outstretched hand and the hope and fear in his eyes...

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

He should have been more eager to get back to it then, instead of poncing about on the tracks for half a bloody hour.

If they'd all just waited in the POW camp they would have been liberated anyway with no loss of life.

I know this is o/t but it is far more interesting than Eurovision.

I think that was the point of the thread!
