    The top surface has a coat of a clear polyurethane lacquer so a soft cloth will be fine. I don't have the underside coated as I want the mat to remain in contact with the metal platter beneath it & minimise any tendency for static to build up.

    Yes followed by copious amounts of concern that it's too heavy for turntable!!!

    It's not, use with confidence. Had mine on since I bought the SP10 and it had had one on for a long time before that. No worries at all.
