Just finished reading 'Sacred Monster' by Donald E Westlake. A black comedy/satire about a self-obsessed and self-destructive actor. I enjoyed this.
Donjald E Westlake also wrote under the name of Richard Stark and was responsible for the 'Parker' novels in that name.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Do you know the Brigadier Gerard stories by Arthur Conan Doyle? They're not as juicy as Flashman but I do think there was a strong influence there.
There's a brilliant one where Napoleon himself sends him on a dangerous mission to deliver a letter but I won't spoil it and say what happens.
