    Default Laptop screen

Seems like my Laptop screen is buggered (well known technical term!).

Before I rush out and buy another one looking for confirmation if you think it is the screen or the graphics card.

I've updated drivers, updated the BIOS, opened up and checked all cable seatings, cleaned things and the motherboard etc.

I think it is the screen and really can't be arsed getting a replacement screen as the laptop is now about 3 years old and was not high end anyway.

Anyone got a laptop they no longer need? Only use it for browsing and a Roon controller.

Here is a pic of the screen.

Not so sure. Just for the lolz I took it apart.

This is what it looks like right now!

Just having a look for a replacement screen. Seems there are a few. But could be a wasted £50 or so.

Yes sadly I think it is Adrian. I'm sort of hoping I can't fix it which will give me the excuse of getting a new one. The Dell convertible catches my eye.

Are you sure it's not the connector? My old Dell did similar but quick wiggle of the connector sorted it out...

Yup, pretty sure not the connectors. I disconnected both connectors (motherboard and screen connectors), cleaned them up and connected again. No improvement. Also, as a confirmation that it is the screen, connected to an external monitor and all good (proving that the graphics chip is fine).

Ah, ok, was just a thought, was fairly sure you would have checked that. Shame it isn’t an easy fix, then.

No thank you Alex. When I first posted I had no idea what was at fault. So all suggestions welcome.

Looks like a replacement screen can be had for about £35 so not so much and may well try that.

Pity, as I was limbering up to buying a new toy. My finance director (swmbo) had already given me the green light.

Whilst I was farting around with the laptop I watched the Apple live stream of their new products. Nice products but I was struck how their presentation was like a new age cult meeting.
