    Question for you Shane.
My mobile contract is with Orange.
I live in an interesting area; from a mobile phone perspective it's very interesting.
I have no signal at home, yet there's a mast 400m or 500m away. On the coverage maps it incorrectly shows excellent coverage. It's not, it's piss poor.

The reason for the no signal at home is because we're in a hollow caused by a frigging great lump of hillside. My problem is the geographical topology.

The only way I get service at home is by using the UMA app on my now quite aged Samsung Galaxy S2.
I'm still on the original version of Android too, because the UMA app disappears in newer versions.

Now bearing all this in mind, what can Orange (or EE) do to keep me interested as a customer?
I'm sick of being tied to using a phone that could do with being updated, yet EE can't (or won't) provide me with phones that do UMA, or do what would be the best solution and give me a Femtocell.

I spend £50 a month on mobiles (my son's phone is on my contract too), and yet there's no recognition of the fact.
I can get some very decent deals with more airtime & data for less money, and with Vodafone there's the option to get one of their Surecall units, and O2 have their TUGO app.

I'm more than a bit fed up with EE's attitude on things to be truthful.
    Chris

To answer the OP - Yes, O2 (and now EE) are the worse, on both perfomance , reliability and customer relations. Change your provider at the earliest time possible.

Which hangs off the back of EE.
The EE association is why I don't take up the very generous offers that Virgin keep contacting me with - Virgin Media provide me with land line, TV and broadband, but they can't give me decent mobile service, and play dumb about there being alternative ways of ensuring mobile service.

I hope Virgin serve you well, Grant, but they fall short of my requirement for mobile telephony.

Sorry Chris, I hadn't re-visited this thread for a while so didn't see your post. The scenario you describe is a common one. All mobile phone networks suffer from coverage holes such as you describe, but EE do offer femtocells to relieve the problem. I have one myself and it works a treat. There are limitations, in that they're not available to PAYG or SIM only accounts, but otherwise I'm surprised you haven't been offered one.
PM me your postcode and I'll have a look and see what's going on in your area.

Well that leaves 3 and Voda. All the others are MVNOs who piggyback off one of those four (and come to that, 3 piggyback off EE in some areas).

Whatever measure you look at, Ofcom show that EE has the widest coverage on 2G, 3G and 4G, the fastest data speeds and the most reliable connection, with O2 not far behind and Voda and 3 bringing up the rear, but EE fall well short on customer service (as I am forcibly reminded by around a hundred callers a day). The trouble is, no matter how good it is, it's never going to be good enough. All networks have huge areas of the countryside that they simply don't cover, and in cities, they're all desperately trying to keep up with demand. It doesn't matter how good you are, if your customer lives in a hole, your networks is the worst in the world and totally beyond redemption.
