In an earlier post I mentioned the possibility of the techie bearing baseplate bending.
Ive just received 2 bearings for rework, the one on the left is OK the one on the right is a prime example of a bent base.
How one can abuse a bearing to that extent I dont know-but it happens.

Hi Ian, glad to see a mate back on top health wise. I have one of your bearings and count me in the supremely satisfied group I see you mentioned having copies of the instructions and I would like a copy if you can.

To anyone considering an ianMac bearing get one if you can. if you want an upgrade but don't want to bust the budget it's a great alternative

Thanks Ian for taking the time to send instructions and to explain how to top up your bearing with oil. Excellent after care even though the bearing was supplied to the previous owner of the deck.
    Thanks again Ian.

Its very quiet on the techie mods front in our current situation.

I thought I had managed to get 3 new techie bearings from Eastern Europe.

    This purchase has fallen through.

Bearing oil for my lubricated bearings?
I recently had to replenish the supply of oil I used for my bearings. I thought could just go to my local stockist and buy some more -- Fuchs Silcolene SAE 5. no luck, I was showing my age, its no longer produced.
The search for a replacement wasn't as simple as I first thought. Outwith the motor trade SAE is hardly used. The two most common measures of viscosity appear to be CST and ISO. I had come across CST before when chasing silicon oil for my arm damper ISO was less familiar.
Thanks to Wiki I was able to find a "comparison" table which helped me look at alternatives.
CST 22 and ISO 22 are close to SAE5
CST 32 and ISO 32 are close to SAE10
Research for good low viscosity oil with good wetting properties, stiction and wear properties led me to look at Industrial Sewing Machine and Knitting Machine oils. Millers Oils, in Brighouse Yorks, have supplied these for ages and are well recommended, unfortunately it only comes in the equivalent of 50 gallon drums.
I was pointed to C Bennis Supplies in Southport who re bottle Millers oils, and others, for sale in small quantities. They also sell on EBay.
I bought two oils and have been using them for some time to my total satisfaction
Millers Industrial grade Sewing machine oil about £8 per litre
Millers Commercial grade Knitting machine oil about £6.50 per 1/2 litre.
If anyone is looking to replenish their bearing oil and not pay a fortune for a small quantity of "specialist" turntable oil this might be an option, the surplus you will have after you've filled your turntable bottle for the nexy 5 yrs can be used as a general purpose household oil.
The usual rider, I have absolutely no connection with C Bennis.

    Hi Ian,

I have a bearing in one of my 1200s that I would LOVE to have you mod if you were in fact still doing them. No bother if not. Cheers!
