    Default Hello!

    Hi,

I am Simon, based near Ware, a musician by profession. Been away from hifi stuff for a while - too much travel for work, and to be honest got into a mess with my systems! Too much clutter, and not enough quality! I am now about to clear out, saving a few bits, and simplify. Will be looking for advice in due course. Mainly listen to vinyl, classical, jazz and some 60s stuff.

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Hi and welcome Simon. Think most of us have been there, and sometimes you have to just start again. Hopefully you will do some posts and get to know everyone before your selling begins. Your chances will increase

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Hello Simon. Welcome to AOS.

Don't be too hasty chucking bits out. Tell us what you have. Some may well be worth using. What was regarded with disapproval a few years ago can sometimes be regarded as decent gear these days (that would apply to some of the stuff I use).

Why not start a thread in our Blank Canvas area and describe what you have and what you want to achieve, including what budget you'd be working to. Our members I'm sure will offer much opinion (some of it may even be sensible ).

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    Welcome to AoS Simon,

As others have said, don't be too hasty in discarding old equipment. Don't worry about perceived reputation of any audio gear - all that matters is what sounds good to you.

Anyway get settled in, let us know what you are looking for in an audio system and I'm sure you will receive sound advice (sorry about the pun! ) - we have a lot of very knowledgable members here.

    Enjoy the Forum

    Regards
    Barry
