All looks nice Shane. How's it sounding?
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Ah. If you're finding the bass a bit reticent, that seems to be a characteristic of some pot type passive pre-amps with some power amps. A TVC will probably give you the bass back and better dynamics.

303s work well with passive pots. I think it is quality over quantity. swapping in speakers that actually have some bass would be the way I would go.

Please, don't get me wrong on what I said in post 97.

The bass is all there with the 303/passive. There's enough slam and detail etc.

Guess I'm just more used to the Roksan's harder hitting bass!

Listened again to this system. The bass is certainly NOT lacking. That slight softness (or warmth) is still there, but not aiming too much towards mushy.

The 303 with a passive can indeed return good results.

Someday, if I fancy having more power and clout. Will the Quad 606 (mk2?) provide that?

Thats a nice amp the mk2. Fancied one myself, but couldn't afford .... still, its always a hope for the future ... I would imagine you'd get a fair bit more out of one than the 303

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I've not heard a 303 sadly, but I've owned a 606ii and it was a very impressive amp. Not the last word in rez (although pretty good), but powerful, controlled, well focussed imaging and tonally neutral. Very nice sound and I thought it looked great!

Was the 606 mk2 matched to a Quad pre?
