    You really should have one.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Lights are always low in my house as I hate bright lights so I think music does sound better the darker it is.... In complete darkness even better...

Yes. Experiment, Use headphones, with the lights on reach a comfortable sound level, switch the lights off, then you'll find the sound level is above your comfortable level and you will reach for the volume. Then you can sit and contemplate volume vs quality. Either way your helping your neurons by reducing background.

I have a Dynaco QD-1 Quadaptor set up with four vintage castle speakers for night listerning but the neighbours have me by the bollox so it's just headset listerning. Superb headphones tho..

My mate has one. I keep toying with getting it off him. But rigging up a 'Hafler' type quad arrangement is so easy anyway (long as the amp has common negs). I've done three way, four way and five way setups.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

It's more immediately noticible with headphones but the point is that yes music does sound better in the dark or with eyes closed or in solitary confinement

Nothing like listerning to headphone on a dim night walking thru thick snow. It's like an highly damped sounding atmosphere.
