I see what you mean, Stan.

    Listening to

Title: AVRO Klassiek Beste NL MP3 256
    URL: http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?...e&PartnerId=16

And in a stage production of Porgy and Bess there was a real sense of space.

The station has moved on to Piano Music - that is very detailed and there is a good sense of space round it.

And Gimmel's 24/96 Studio Master Download Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli is amazing. Squeezecentre downsamples to 24/48 before streaming, - but the clarity is great.

One review I read complained of light bass - I am just impressed how much bass there is when the transducers are so far from the ears. I don't have the first idea what that "bass lens" does even though the handbook talks about it.

I am confused about the impedance of phones. Where can I read about that, Stan. These are low impedance phones (25 ohmns) you say. So they need less voltage swing but more current. Higher impedance phones - and some HiFi phones are 300 or more ohmns. They would need more volts and less amps (milli-amps, I hope!), but would be working with a much higher damping factor. On the downside won't the voice coils be heavier to their detriment?

    I am very confused.

But these Sony F1s sound very good, and as you say break the design mould in many ways.

    ---

I note at this stage that I bought them off eBay with no fuss at all - that is some sort of recommendation, but no guarantee for others who might choose to buy from the same internet store.

There are a lot of theories and statements you can read up on if you browse forums like head-fi etc. I have my own opinions, which I keep to myself since they don't follow the thinking, formulas, and calculations of other headphone experts.

I just do my best to make money from my own radical thinking by producing one of the best headphone amps on the market for less than £250, and I throw in a free DAC in the purchase price as well.

I don't know how the others compare - I have not listened to them:

Perhaps other members on this list have made comparisons? Perhaps they might comment?

I had £500, being the annual income from my book, and was prepared to spend that on the headphone option I will need when I become a flat dweller next month, but I have now spent half that on the Caimon,

Could you give some details about your book Brian? (Sorry if this is off topic)

Harry Potter it ain't. A pretty dull technical manual, but useful if you need it.

I don't recommend anyone attempt such writing as a way of making money - but I didn't do it for that.

And that's my cover blown, but yesterday was may last day on the Army payroll. Retired now!

Sitting here in the lounge listening to my 7510 on the main system 'cos the Caiman is upstairs with my new Sony F1 headphones.

The 7510s bass is overblown and sloppy in comparison.

I need some closed ear headphone, what would be peoples recommendations for best closed ear cans for use with just the 7520?

    Hi Shaneduddy,
As in most things it depends what your budget is, I guess. For my part I am very happy with My Sennheisser HD280 pro (change from £100 at Richer Sounds) and Stan also rates them highly for use with the 7520. He also rates the AKG701 (?) but they're a bit more expensive .(Think they're closed )
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    DaveK.

I own them, use them and they are not closed lol.
I want a pair for office use since i`m a programmer and can listen to my 7520 + headphones...providing that the everyone else at work doesn't hear what I`m listening to. :P
I was looking at a pair of headphones that would have more bass and have better synergy with the 7520 than my k701's.

I was even thinking of going down the custom in ear canal phones after reading epic 3 way review here

    http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/r...e11pro-440051/

Needless to say I will post my thoughts of using ear canal phones with the 7520, if I do choose to go down that path

Went with Denon d2000's, they are on their way =)
Didnt really figure it was going all out, just need good enough quality for work
Seeing how people have had good results with D5000's, I`m hoping the 2000's will be a similar case, anyone got any good opamp recommendations for em? currently got lm4562's in.
