    Default Hello to all

    Hi

My name is Chris .........'I,m 21 and 36 - 24 ....... and I'd wish for world peace and to travel and meet new people' ....... oops sorry wrong forum, that was for my 1970's gameshow/Miss Anglia application - I thought I'd dig it out because a lot of the compare competition seem to have more pressing things to do with their time, on an all expenses paid courtesy of Her Royal ...... anyway I dither.
I am in infact 50 this year and having some time away from work - long boring story - so have more time on my hands to indulge in my worrying box swapping habits --- I dont know much about the working of electronics etc but have had a fair few components pass my ears --- the amount of times I have said this one is definately, most definately a keeper and meant it 100% at the time is untrue - but if this is my only problem I'm a lucky man. With my time off I've been asked by a couple o mates to put together systems for them which is an absolute joy as it means I get to hear the gear but dont have to pay for it myself ---- a real keeper were a pair of Electric Beach Frugal 3's but even they had to go quite recently as loss of earnings forced sale (!) - i will be re purchasing a pair however when on my feet fianancially -- meantime I have discovered joys of older speakers --- I've always thought s/hand was best value --- but budgets have forced me a little lower down scale but Ihave found a couple of gems (to my ears ) firstly a pair of B&W DM4s on matching stands -- 70's porn speakers that wuldnt look out of place in the Sweeney for less than £200 a bargain --- and also ( no one more surprised than me ) a pair of B&O Redline 60.2 picked up for an embarrassingly low amount i.e £32 delivered ! that have forced me to re examine my prejudices towards that brand ----- where they're charging several thousand for a T amp then its justified but when prices get sensible its nice gear -- i've always liked their cabinets second hand but this area is new to me --- but impressed so far!

Anyway rest of current system is as follows
    Zen 2Tb music server
    JKDAC32 and/or iFI mini DAC
    iFi mini Tube
iFi mini USB power and silencer
Pioneer CD PD9700 stable platter as a transport
    Custom cables interconnects
    Chord speaker cable
Hydra Power cable and BT conditioner ( great pig ugly upgrade for £10!)

The iFi gear is new to me but I am very impressed so far ---- recent gear i've had that I have passed or am passing on ..... Jolida FX II Modright mods DAC a Ming Da pre amp and a really nice VA Sensation 451 integrated --- all gone to good homes I'm pleased to say.
Anyway - that is me and I look forward to chatting with new people -- many thanks
    chris

Welcome Chris. I have an Amptastic as well...as you say they are very good standalone but improve when used as a power amp with a passive pre.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Hello Chris. Welcome to AOS.

That was a pretty comprehensive intro. You could tell us what music you play though.

We have a Gallery section for system photos, that you may like to add to.

You'll find loads to interest you here.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.

Good intro. Welcome to the forum!

Another amptastic here and I've heard they can be sublime with a tube pre.

I'm taking mine along to the NEBO in the hope of hearing it on the end of a croft pre.

    All the best.
