    Default Just to give my update that PL-71 on ebay

    I was at that last bake off with Mr Coco's SP-10, a good sounding LP-12 and the Garrard.
    All performed well and I think any particular deck seeing off all others is a subjective personal opinion - the ad should state that of course.

    RD's did sound very good with the SPU as did Mr Coco's with his £11K cart and SME 12" arm and 60kg of granite plinthing in two sections My least fav was the Garrard tbh - probably the 103 being shown up in present company?

    For ref the 1 power & 1 speed switches are pretty easy to replace - mine used a Maplin available switch with exactly the same standard pattern as the original Matsushita ones.
    These just bolted / soldered in on my deck. See pic



    A friend of mine recently bought a PL-71 (after hearing mine), and he had a bit more trouble installing the switches - his uses 3 switches and it took a while setting them up just right but he's done it. See pic


    The point to note is that I have been looking for PL-71's since Nov last year and I have seen 7 come up on Ebay inc mine. Prices are up a fair bit since Gromit bought his. I make the average price £162
    Very good ones go for a shade over £200. I guess prices are rising.
    Add ~£60 for shipping + you need to move one wire inside for 230-240V or get a Maplin 230 - 110v transfomer for £14.99.

    One might also need to change the pitch pots and the electrolytic caps on the PSU (3) and even a further 8 on the motor board. These don't cost much at all.

    There, I think that is everything that's relevant.

    Sources: Self built HTPC with Xonar ST sound card, NAD T585 multi disc player, Sony BDP-S350, Squeezebox Touch, Techncs SL1210 (mod'd) + Nagaoka MP30, Thomson Sky HD box.
    Amps etc.: 2 x Mini-T amps, MF-X10D Valve buffer clone, StanDAC 7520/Caiman (mod'd).
    Speakers: Mission 774s with added super tweeters
    Cables: best I can afford and likely to change except Homar's RF attenuated co-ax's and Mark Grant USB and HDMI cables. I also like silver i/cs and speaker cable.

    Cables & Sundries: Mark Grant HDX1 interconnects and digital coaxial cable, plus Mark Grant 6mm UP-LCOFC Van Damme speaker cable. MCRU 'Ultimate' mains leads. Lehmann clone headphone amp with vintage Koss PRO-4AAA headphones.

    Tube Distinctions digital noise filter. VPI HW16.5 record cleaning machine.
