    Default Lossless Internet Radio Stream

    This is a FLAC stream

    http://radio.cesnet.cz:8000/cro-d-dur.flac

    It is discussed here

    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...highlight=flac

At the moment there is no easy way for a Squeezebox to stream it, but it can be accessed by other means.

I have not listened. I would have to move some hardware around the house, but I would be interested to hear views from others.

Is it a classical music station?

    VERY interesting.

Yes, it is a classical station. Or at least, in the 10 minutes I've been listening I've made out the names Schubert and Liszt. Difficult to know what the pieces are given my limited knowledge of both classical music and what the Czech presenter is saying, but it sounds very nice. I have it playing faultlessly via VLC Media Player on the Mac. There is also no talking over the music. Sounds a bit like a Czech BBC Radio 3.

I need to start bookmarking these interesting stations, there's only so long you can keep listening to Radio Paradise.

Thanks for that. I shall keep listening, I might learn something

I also just realised that they're streaming at 48000Hz, so I adjusted my Audio MIDI settings to match and now it sounds VERY good.

    Wonder why it's 48KHz though...

Even without the FLAC the best Internet Radio I have heard has been from eastern Europe with OGG encoding.

Live concerts (or time slipped live concerts) are the very best. If the music has never been on CD the recording is probably at 48 or 96.

    Do you think?

I agree. I was wondering if these were being played off DAT or something similar. It would seem silly to be playing CD's out and upsampling them, just a waste of bandwidth.

That's an impressive list of stations. Thank you very much for sharing that. I've been trying to expand my knowledge of classical music for some time: Compilations are pretty much useless as they always have the same stuff on them. Spotify is very good, but only if you know what you're looking for. This could be the way forward!!

    Hello all!

My first post, after lurking since near the beginning. Thanks for posting the link to the Czech-based station streaming flac.

Not really my musical cup of tea, but the sound quality is streets ahead of MP3 based stations, which I avoid almost as a matter of principle, regardless of musical content.

I just copied and pasted the lnk into VLC ( already on my PC) and the music poured forth.

Well out of my m-audio Transit and into my TC 7510 (Yes I've got one too!

    Again thanks

I was trying this last night on VLC, and the following error came up:

flac: this doesn't look like a flac stream, continuing anyway
flac: invalid size for a STREAMINFO metadata block

It still plays the stream fine though.

However, looking at the log for VLC it thinks its a 128kbits/sec stream, although it does say its 48kHz sampling rate. What's happening here? Am I not getting the full bandwidth stream?

It sounds good through headphones, whatever the bit rate.

I have never seen that error.

Have you tried installing Foobar and the plugins that make bitperfect streaming possible.

    Hi there.

Yes I'm running an old G4 800MHz Power Mac that's rather slow these days.

So am I not getting the full bandwidth stream?
