Sony made some crackers. My APM20ES speakers are very capable and I hear that their big brothers (22s) are even better. As with many things, Japanese makers suffered from the British is best brigade. There are good things from all over as well as bad.

Must have been set up with the wrong partnering gear. "Muddy" is the last thing Sugdens could be accused of. They are lucid, smooth and clean.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
Is the Sugden Muddy?
The system it was in was a Linn Sondeck with basic arm and cartridge. The Sugden was feeding a pair of K.E.F. Codas ( the original ones with the two tone paper baffle). It may have been the cartridge, I have never heard a Linn cartridge I have liked.

Guy's talking through his hat...contradictory and wrong in the latter... it has no blow holes.The Tannoy 637 speaker enclosure is completely sealed for optimised sound output and has rear blow ports for venting.
