I'm sure treading cable through the holes would a bit of a PITA!

Billy bargain! Bit of Pledge, they'll be good as new

Apparently they were designed with a rectangular shape and made of wood material, giving them a unique brown colour.

And wired connectivity too! I've always said you can't go wrong with that.

I wasn't going to do that and I couldn't be arsed to go elsewhere so I hung about and after ten minutes or so some girl did turn up and, acting like it was some huge imposition, started scanning stuff through at breakneck pace.

I thought my bill was a bit light, when I got back and looked at the receipt there was a couple of things that weren't on there.

She must have run them across so fast they didn't register.
I tried to purchase something on the self-service tills. When things went t*ts up I asked a roving member of staff for help. His reply, and I kid you not, was that he couldn't help me as he "hadn't been trained on the self sevice tills"!

    I like (things) in brackets

When I had that experience it was before they had self service. It was when I had an allotment so would be about 2007 or 2008.

One job I'd hate is being the bloke who has to stand around the self service tills and sort out the problems and clear the baskets away. The time must really drag.

What did you grow on your allotment, and why did you give it up?

strawberries, and tomatoes in the greenhouse.

Was derelict when I got it, spent weeks clearing it, repainted and repaired the greenhouse.

End of the second year the 'committee' said I was 'under utilising' it as I had half of it still fallow. Said they'd kick me off it so I told them where to stick it.

That's the trouble with committees - as individuals they can hide behind their collective decisions. Also they only need to employ one brain cell each in order to form one barely functioning organism.

Is your space at the back of your house not big enough to use? Smallish greenhouses aren't super-expensive, and I'd come over to help you chuck one up.
