“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

"his da" ? Is dat sum wicked street talkin' shit abou' hims fadda?" Or just his da?

(I don't mean this as applying to anyone's ethnicity, just that I have teenagers and they don't half talk some rubbish using an urban patois that is probably from London but mine live in rural Wales/Shropshire! I mean it humorously as a Scot who knows that da is "yer faither")

I know exactly what you mean Sandy, a while ago I tried to describe this urban shite-talking in a post, and I don't think anyone knew what I was on about. It's a kind of 'gang-talk' largely heard coming from young black and Asian males, and Grime artists like Stormzy and Dizzee Rascal.

Yoofs everywhere seem to be adopting it because they think it's cool. I just think they sound like simpletons.

'Urban Shite-Talking' - got to be a PhD in there for someone. Probably a fat white bird in an ethnic hat and a shawl.

See in my day we just had 'Jive Talkin' by the Bee-Gees and everyone knew where they stood.

I don't know any youths, thankfully.
