Given that's the case, I've heard the best tape decks outperform some CDPs. Also, when applied to car audio, the better ones piss all over anything digital!

Disagree. With a top deck, top quality metal tape and a lot of care results can be 'acceptable' at best. Compact cassette is fundamentally compromised as a medium. More so even than vinyl. There'll be an Edison wax cylinder revival next. Followed by people walking about with minstrels in tow. Some things best left in the past but nostalgia appears to be a powerful tweak.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

The turntable is a Philips possibly GA202, quite nice, but not worth a fortune. The speakers are goodness knows what and the Quad bits speak for themselves.

Where the dust bug cleaner was positioned made me laugh.

Goodness knows what an unmolested TD124 will fetch these days, prices are getting silly. Upwards of £850 maybe?

The 774 arm, if it has all the bits is worth around £225.
