Hilarious! This guy has a good line in bullshit. I must look up "Studio Spec". I notice the stuffed midrange dustcap wasn't mentioned .

"These speakers are undoubtedly a slice of history, a monument to a Golden era in broadcast technology.."

Yes at just the time when the BBC speaker design heritage went tits up.

Do you have experience of these speakers during your time at the BBC?

£2,700 !? I bought exactly the same deck and arm about ten years ago and paid £750, complete with a Shure M55E cartridge.

No my time was earlier, and at the time when they were doing great things; LS 5/5, 3/4, and then into the Spendor BC1 when Hughes left to form his own company. To this day I have never been so overcome by the purity of a speaker as I was with the 5/5 in the Quality Control Room at Bush when listening to Santana Abraxas after my Tannoy Lancaster Golds, and this with e ears of a 23 year old.

From general opinion the development of the polyprop cones, although an improvement, lead into a faulty design/production process leading to the much criticised LS 5/8 and 5/9, the latter particularly being produced out of spec compared with the prototype, they both had the presence dip, and the original didn't. The PM510 was a passive version of the 5/8, and that looks like an iteration of the 5/9.
