Actually got to sit down and listen to this today, cost me £3.99 off ebay +£4 P&P, I was cleaning some other records this morning so did this as well. I have to say that this is a rather stunning Mike Oldfield album, it's the first where the whole album is not a concept. Crises, all of side 1 is excellent, some thunderous drumming at the end to test speakers out, and overall the dynamics are superb. Side 2 is 5 songs with the famous Moonlight Shadow, all are rather good.

If you like Oldfield the this is one to have IMHO.

Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Amplification:- AudioValve Sunilda phono stage, Krell KSP-7B pre-amp, Krell KSA-80 power amp

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.

Well this is a rather annoying record, it is an original PF - Animals and the vinyl looks great condition, but there is a but, which is why I re-cleaned it this morning. Result is it definitely has less surface noise (crackle). What is odd is that it is perfectly fine for half a track or so and then in comes crackle and pop for a bit and then is OK again. I have looked at it carefully under a very bright light and reckon that it has suffered from a smokey room many years ago. Its not terrible just annoying. So I think it will have to undergo a super clean and see if it improves a bit more. I have had one or two vinyls like this before and with perseverance have clean up in the end, so fingers crossed.

I'm picturing loosened crap being dragged along the groove by the stylus, until it accumulates into audible clumps of crap. I'm probably wrong, but further cleans as you say, may be the answer.

Good heads up with the Mike Oldfield record, I'm off to Ebayville to get a copy
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
