Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – 'Trout Mask Replica'

    Label: Reprise Records – 927 196-2
Format: CD, Album, Reissue, Repress, Stereo, TELDEC GmbH Pressing
    Country: Germany
    Released: 2004
    Genre: Rock
    Style: Blues Rock, Avantgarde, Experimental

For years I have always found this recording unlistenable and sheer gibberish. Yet it contiues to receive rave reviews by the cognoscenti, and is considered by some to be one of the top 20 records released in the 20th century - so I thought I ought to listen to it again.

Sorry, to me it is still unlistenable rubbish - but at least I tried.

So to something much, much better:

    Bob Dylan – 'Tempest'

    Label: Columbia – 88725457602, Sony Music – 88725457602
    Format: CD, Album
    Country: Europe
    Released: September 7, 2012
Genre: Rock, Blues, Pop, Folk, World, & Country
Style: Folk Rock, Rhythm & Blues, Ballad

Bob's voice has become a lot huskier, but that hasn't stopped his ability to write some very good songs.

I've got that on vinyl and I agree it's just nonsense. As for the critics, only liking 'eclectic' music (i.e self indulgent rubbish) has always been a bit of a badge of superiority with some types. You know the sort I mean. Every sixth form had at least a couple of them.

On the plus side my copy's worth a few bob as I've only played it once - and I don't think the previous owner played it more than once either as it was near mint when I got it

More from the ex-Floyd bassist with a big chip on his shoulder!
I bought this one a couple of years ago, and actually quite like it Unlike "Radio Kaos" which a mate bought late 80s and I never felt the need to buy my own copy. And never will.

This is an absolute must for all Floyd fans. A live recording of Floyd's earlier work, including some pieces that was never made public (unless you have bootleg copies! ), but so well done the lyrics are crystal clear with wonderful soundstaging. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a "Floyd" record so much.

I have yet to watch the DVD, but wonder why it was give a 15 certification?
This one came to my attention recently, and it looks like something I'd like. But I'm not ready to be paying 20 quid for a CD (the DVD would be no use to me), so I'll look out for a secondhand bargain.
