    she relearned to play guitar in her 60's while working for the seegers' as a maid. eventually being recorded by son pete. She actually wrote 'Freight Train' but it had been nicked by another artist. Seeger managed to get her name back on it.
    She was quite a decent player, as was Rosetta Tharpe

    Yes, I have heard of (Sister) Rosetta Tharpe, but not of Elizabeth Cotton.

    Good to know she was eventually acknowledged for 'Freight Train'; hopefully she got some royalties.

    cotten with an e... she also played a righthanded guitar lefthanded; ie upsidedown, but left strings the way they were so bass strings on bottom.. fingerpicker extrordinaire. lol
