I have been quite impressed with the Amarra/Dirac collaboration, essentially Dirac room correction software piggybacked onto Sonic Studios 'Amarra' playback software.

Acoustically measuring your room is a really good idea, it highlights problems and allows you to expedite an effective cure, whether that is passive,active or a mixture of both.
