    My humble little rig...

    Puresound P10 phonostage
    Noteworthy Audio's Stepnote step-up transformer
    Cambridge Audio 840C
Slee Solo phones amp with PSU1 supply
    Royd Merlins

Spacedeck (inc Heavy Kit) with Spacearm/Lyra Dorian

I recently had the Puresound hot-rodded by Guy Sergeant who fitted the large AN copper caps, faster diodes and a couple of other bits'n'bobs. Along with the Sylvania Bad Boys it makes quite a difference to the standard amp...

Joining this soon will be an NVA P50/A60 amp.

Superb system, mate, and great photos.

I don't know about a "humble" system - very well thought out and put together more like!

I just *know* without even hearing it that I'd like it.

So how does it sound and what's your favourite music? Also, how would you say the Pure Sound and Noteworthy stuff compares to similarly priced more mainstream components, perhaps things you've used in the past?

Questions, questions, I know...but you system genuinely intrigues me

    Marco.

Good choice on the Puresound item. I heard a Puresound stage at the show on Saturday. The combination of that and an excellent turntable were certainly much stronger than the Bel Canto CD player running in the same system.

    Thanks chaps

Marco - my musical tastes are somewhat varied: Today Ive been listening to Rachmaninov Isle of the Dead/Symphonic Dances and just had a couple of early Smiths lp's playing. That should give you some idea!

Trouble is it's rather difficult to get a system which will play both in a convincing manner. My 'Big thing' is musical communication and retention of the energy contained within the playing of it. Let's also call it the 'goosebump factor' which I feel is extremely important.

I'm a professional clarinettist by trade and am lucky (unlucky in some ways!) to be subjected to live music every day of my working life. I'll admit that no system (on none that I've heard) can really, fully re-create the dynamics contained within a live performance but it can get quite close to the feeling created by the performance of good music. I try not to get too bogged down with hifi terms ie separation, soundstage etc as I feel these are not, for me, that relevant to the musical whole. No one ever left a live concert saying how good the separation/sounstage/imaging sounded, but more about how well (or badly!) the band/orchestra played and how it made them feel.

It's probably a slightly simplistic view but it is my small holy grail when it comes to hifi.

Quite the opposite actually, most audiophiles seem to forget the point of hi-fi and get bogged down with the terminology. More could do with actually hearing the music.

    Hi Tim

Nice to hear from you again.

Have you tried using your speakers without the chopping boards underneath.

I realise we have completely different speakers, but,in my trials and errors with various things under the speakers,I have found that they work best just spiked straight onto the floor.

Things tried include the same chopping boards you currently use,a paving slab and some MANA,maybe Marco will tell us what the MANA was.
