I'm also pretty sure B&O made their own carts. They were (and are?) a very independant company and I think it was a matter of principle that they made every item themselves.

Fair enough, if that's the case. It's just that some of them, such as the one Grant's got, share many sonic traits with SPUs... They both have that 'rich, effortless musicality', which is also found in the DL-103 - cartridges made for music lovers, rather than hi-fi freaks!

My gut feeling tells me it's likely, in some small shape or form (or otherwise), even if it hasn't been documented or officially recognised, but I have no way of proving it. Regardless, hold onto that cart, mate, as it's quality. Look forward to hearing it when I come up

B&O made all their own cartridges in-house and had no connection with Ortofon (other than being Danish!).

The SP1 pre-dates him but their main turntable engineer in the 1960s and 70s was Subir Pramanik, who invented the stylus profile that bears his name.

Must be how Danish cartridges back then were voiced!

Seriously though, if you've ever compared an SP1 with an SPU, you'll hear the sonic similarities.
