I've not heard the 2A but have heard reports that it is brighter / more forward than the 1A. Don't think I would prefer it.
There are quite a few variants of the dac around, I've only heard an old and new 1A. Both are excellent but the newer one (as in the link above) is even more transparent and detailed. It's a great Dac, imo.

its a pre amp/ dac and also a headphone amp. This one seems to me to be better volume wise than the loan one for some reason or Ive just go lucky with a position. Got it set at about 10 oclock and its working fine for both headphones and system. Still using the ss output rather than the valve one for now. Controls didnt have markings on though so I marked them myself with a blue paintpen. Quite pleased with it... nice of our Jerry to have loaned me his. Tremendous value.

the 02 is purely digital input wise. The 01 takes analogue as well. other than that, you get 2 buttons instead of a pot so digital vc too,
