I think it said on the radio today (if I understand this correctly) that E10 will cause rustiness in petrol tanks and cause water to get into the carbs/injectors/engine when restarted if left unused for long periods, like with lawnmowers. This would then apply to my Fireblade, which only does about 1000 miles in the summer and nowt in the winter.

So would switching to the super unleaded (which I think is E5) be the answer, or am I missing something?

No you’re not. There are also additives for E10 to prevent this.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Cheers Ali, just had half hour reading up on this, and am going to get some fuel stabilizer today.

One good thing about all this E10 fuel publicity is that it's highlighted a (potential) problem I never knew existed. The bike's put up with crappy fuel for all of its 17 years and never grumbled once. God bless Honda

I'd only ever put Super Unleaded in my bike (E5 as it is now categorised) - and added some Liqui Moly 8365 fuel system treatment - I don't think carbs like the new E10 at all.

Back in the 80's I would find the time for Five Star, come rain or shine. Guess I was a system addict?

Funny how car insurance works. My renewal notice came a couple of weeks ago and it recommended renewing online to qualify for a £10 discount. Needless to say I ignored that and phoned up to renew instead, as I do each year. My quote was £594 (£584 online) and I told them I wanted to pay less. With bit of checking they came back with a £534 price which I accepted. That's a £60 saving just from haggling a bit, well worth the phone call!
