The battery is expected to be fine for a minimum 10years 100k mls but if serviced by Toyota think it's covered for 15.
Doubt you'll still have it then.

    I had to look up C-HR : https://www.toyota.co.uk/world-of-to...ew-toyota-c-hr

    https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/toyota/c-hr

I think the notion of "self charging hybrid" is just a rewording advertising gimick. Just think "hybrid" - forget the rest. Basically a petrol engine (usually) with an electric motor and battery system as well. Plug-in hybrids are the way to go now, I think - or just go completely electric. Some of the plug-in hybrids hardly use any petrol at all if used for typical work day (commuter) journeys - though the petrol engine would kick in on long trips. I don't know if that is done automatically, or if there is a switch for the plug-in models. These are attractive to people who do long trips, or who are scared of running out of juice with pure electric vehicles. Project Fear applies to cars as well as other aspects of life.

We have a Toyota Prius which has done over 125,000 miles and the battery is still going. The battery packs are usually guaranteed for 8 years by the manufacturer- not sure about the newest ranges. The new cars have better performance, but I don't like the latest design much. Some of the designs from a few years ago were nicer.

I notice that the C-HR comes in different models - one with a gear box. Unless you're really keen on stick shift models, I think it makes much more sense to go for automatics. Most people can't do any better than an automatic anyway re acceleration etc.

Although I really like our older Toyota, there are now many cars which may offer similar or better features. I'm still looking to Tesla for a new car, but will probably only be able to afford the 3 model. Until we've tried one though, not sure if it'll really suit us.

For pottering around, the Renault Zoe seems good - and we have driven those.

I'm quite happy to keep burning petrol. I might even look around for another diesel.

Tell her to stick to what she knows best (cleaning and cooking), and let the man of the house decide which car to get!

Del's gone off the notion a little of getting a new Fiat Panda, and has her heart set on one of these (as a kind of 'homage' to her Moggie Traveller, which she loved): https://www.mini.co.uk/en_GB/home/ra...i-clubman.html

The twin doors at the back will allow her/us to get large items in, such as flat packs when we go to Ikea, etc... Plus it's a fairly stylish thing. We're going to look at some tomorrow

I'm sure that isn't a money making scam really

Everybody knows how important it is to service a battery, all those moving parts inside require lots of maintenance.

    Hmmm?

well there is more to the battery than the battery. i dont know the replacement cost but at a guess about 2500 quid. on upside servicing hybrids should be cheaper, or so im told. in 10 years, the way we are going, that is all youll be able to buy anyway

As a sort of mini MPV runabout, I rather like the recently introduced Suzuki Ignis.

Available as a not quite hybrid, but 'electric assist' type. Drives pretty well apparently.

Nice, Geoff. I quite like the SZ5 in 'Fervent Red' two tone (lots of nice bits you can add, too): https://cars.suzuki.co.uk/new-cars/ignis/sz5/

Cheers for that. It's one we hadn't considered
