Well I've got a beanie hat and an old CND badge, so my green credentials are good.

Anyway, global cooling is the new global warming.

    Hi Gary,

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but it's bad form (whether intentional or not) raining on someone's parade, i.e. in this case Grant's, when they're getting a new 'toy', whether it be a piece of hi-fi equipment, or in this case a car.

The polite thing to do, in keeping with the friendly vibe we promote on AoS, is either to say nice things about the new 'toy' in question, and make the person concerned feel good about their purchase, or if you don't like what they're buying, simply say nothing and let them get on with it.

Therefore, if you have some form of agenda (i.e. against hybrid cars or what they stand for) please save it for a separate thread. Let's keep the vibe here friendly and good natured. Cheers!

    My apologies
That's the biggest problem with written communication, it can appear that you are being negative or condescending when you are not intending to so.
My sincere apologies to Struth if my comments caused any offence. That wasn't my intention

Don't know how many are aware of this, but I'm told that most cars you see with "matt" finishes aren't paint jobs, they are a vinyl "wrap". This can be applied to any car, and the quality of the finish can be extraordinary (although I bet this is largely down to the skill of the guy doing it). And apparently it can be removed without detriment to the car's original finish.

A couple of years ago I saw a car parked up in Manchester - it was a C63 AMG finished in an olive green matt finish. Sounds hideous, but actually looked pretty badass.

It's definitely a matter of skill, I tried doing the bonnet of my Mk2 Golf. Wasn't pretty

Best left to either professionals or people with a flair for that kind of thing. (not me unfortunately)

I used to have a Mk2 Golf 16v a long time ago. I loved that car. They were never pretty anyway, more brutishly handsome!

    That's a fair point lol
The somewhat challenged looks certainly aren't helped by a sheet of wrinkly matt black vinyl on the bonnet though, it got even worse when I removed said vinyl and the lacquer coat came off with it

VW had a problem with paintwork shedding lacquer for a while. It started coming off the roof of my Golf estate so I peeled it and re-lacquered it.
