The not-so-hidden costs of living in That London. You could always move 'oop north' Geoff. Cheaper car insurance, and for the price of a London 2 bed terraced you could buy a whole town in East Lancs, complete with Municipal swimming pool. And we don't even laugh at southern accents anymore.

Hmm. Just received my car insurance renewal quote, It's a heck of a lot LESS than what they initially wanted last year. I'm not complaining, but have this niggly feeling there's a catch.

Last year they wanted around a grand, until I haggled them down a few hundred. This time it's a 'mere' £574 if I renew online.

It's still a rip-off. My brother had his new Audi Q5 3.0 TD (the fast one) and new Vauxhall Agila van on one policy for around £350, a year or so back. He lives right out in the sticks.

My renewal was less this year, I heard that premiums are generally lower for some reason. First time I haven't haggled or changed insurer for years - the catch is it could have been even lower if I hadn't been so lazy, all this shopping around does take it's toll though!
Wouldn't mind one of those devices that monitors your driving and if you are 'safe' lowers your premium.. Trouble is wifely drives as well (only kidding dear!)

£574 doesn't sound very 'mere' to me. But then Windermere is a mere, and is also the largest lake in England (c'mon Macca, tell me I'm wrong)

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

This week, I finally traded in my Prius after over 8 years and 116,000 miles. That thing never ever went wrong, it was dirt cheap to maintain and did 57mpg so I knew I wanted another hybrid. I figured this one would do...

Nice. Been looking at Lexii for my next car, just the reports of wallowy cornering in the GS and LS puts me off a bit. Probably get a Merc CLS though, like the look of those.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”
