    Electric is ideal for that.

It just isn't ideal for pretty much anything else.

We have to wait for them to realise batteries are never going to cut it ('They're getting better all the time!' Yes, in 40 years they've gone from useless to just shit) and move to hydrogen fuel cells where you can fill up with hydrogen just like you do with petrol.

    Or alternatively, Mr Fusion.

I suspect that in maybe 100 years, those of us that remain after WW3, will be using non-petrol, non-electric, environmentally friendly transport with a mere one horsepower.

Interesting older article about Lithium reserves: https://www.greentechmedia.com/artic...y-m#gs.V5StLWs

Not directly related, but I wonder how far we may get with solar power. And I don't just mean for transport. The elements necessary are not necessarily in huge abundance. Tellurium for instance, is scarce and expensive.

As an average lithium polymer battery has only 3% lithium by weight and there is estimated to be 13.5 million metric tons of lithium in the world apparently we will run out in about 350 years.... at current growth rates.

    Marco.
There's no safety issue, you can already buy a hydrogen fuel cell car.

Try putting a naked flame near an empty petrol tank and see what happens. Diesel won't blow but then you are driving around giving everyone asthma and cancer. It's all a trade off. The only emission from hydrogen power is water.
