Car (or bike) Chat!

I'd have an electric car tomorrow if there was a way I could charge it... unless you have a driveway, which I don't, there is no safe way of doing so..

I've often thought of contacting my local authority saying I'd like to have an electric outlet outside where I could charge an electric car just to see what they would do..

I'm sure a competent electrician to adapt a street lamp to be a charging point. In fact that would probably work, make all lamp posts charging stations. Users could pay an agreed monthly fee to the local council to use them.

You would have to park on the same side of the road as the charging point though, we don't want to be garrotting folk.

You can keep yer electric cars! I'm a combustion engine guy, and a car enthusiast, so like to hear a nice engine note when I'm driving, or when I start the car up, and of course I love the whole 'tweaky' aspect of tuning engines and maintaining them, so for me, an electric car is a total anathema.

They're fine if all a car to you is a method of 'getting from A to B', but not if you're a passionate petrol head like me!

I'm a horse guy, and a cart enthusiast, so I like to hear a nice horse fart when I'm driving, or when I say "giddy up", and of course I like the whole 'tweaky' aspect of feeding the horse different types of hay and mucking out their stables, so for me a car is a total anathema.

Well, at least horses are 'real'... Riding one, properly, will be a damn sight more exhilarating than driving a nondescript electric car!

I absolutely abhor how the government and society are trying to 'sanitise' our lives and suck the fun out of living. It's happening in various ways; controlling the types of cars we drive, being but one, and we need to fight against it, not comply with it!

Driving a nice car should STIR YOUR SENSES, not put you to sleep!!

Not stupid, this government.

First they demonise drivers of fossil-fuelled cars, giving the "tree huggers" a target for their vitriol. Like they need a target.

Then they get the public thinking, "Ooh, that electric car looks nice, should be very economical (no fuel to put in), no road tax, and we're saving the planet!"

Of course when we're all committed to electric cars, electricity will be taxed to buggery, road tax will return, and the resources needed to make the batteries will come close to depletion, creating more global "doom".

I for one will be keeping my plasma room-heating TV, my lovely 300b room-heating valve amp, and they'll have to pry my car and bike keys from my cold, dead fingers.
