Why is it so difficult to buy a decent petrol SUV, and if you find one the price is outrageous . I test drove an Audi Q5 the other day its over £42k new. The diesel was 4 grand cheaper all very strange.

My brother bought the 3.0 turbo diesel V6 auto. He got stranded miles out in the French countyside with a blown tyre and they don't supply a spare wheel with the Q5, only an electric pump and tyre repair 'goo', which proved to be useless. The car was eventually recovered and the tyre replaced, but he was so annoyed about it, that he disposed of it as soon as he returned to the UK!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I'm afraid that SUVs do nothing for me whatsoever. Just not my thing. I like being LOW down in a car (for a greater sensation of speed and fun), not HIGH up.

I'd only ever considered one if I lived out in the sticks and needed the 4WD facility.

Marco, I prefer the driving position and need the 4 wheel drive to get home in the winter if there is snow, done the low and fast.

Had he taken out full European breakdown cover with the AA or RAC, Geoff? That's what we always do, when we go abroad with the car. Never had to use it yet, but if the worst happens and your car's toast, they fly you home and get your car back there, too.

The peace of mind is well worth it, and it doesn't cost that much either. Think it was less than £60 last time we went to Germany.

He had cover Marco, he's often touring abroad. Via the VAG dealership I believe, part of the package as it was a brand new car.

Hey Robin, if you need it, you need it., so that's cool. I don't need 4WD, and if you're someone who doesn't and lives in a town, you're a bit of a dick if you drive about in an SUV. Don't talk to me about women driving SUVs and 'school runs' either, just because they 'like to be high up'!

Cool. Never understood why some folk cut corners like that, even in the UK. If you take a car out onto the road, then you either know how to fix it yourself in the event of a breakdown or puncture, or take out appropriate breakdown cover.

That Macan S was insured by Porsche for £62,500. When I got I back to the garage as my Boxster was in for some work, I told the service engineer what a fine piece of mechanical engineering it was. And it is.

The instant retort was that I couldn't have it because it had already been sold. Was I supposed to look disappointed or was it just a statement of fact?

£62K is insane but it shits all over a Merc GLA at half the price - my wife's new toy. So you get something for the price.

I had no respect for them until now.
