Are you allowed out to try it? I start up our cars every few weeks just to check, and maybe drive them round the front garden - just drive round the lawn once or twice. Really could do with a longer run - but I expect I could do a round trip somewhere to pick up food, which would address that. Best not to let the starter battery get really run down, so makes sense to keep starting up maybe once a week, though having started the car one ought to keep it running for a while - unless you're the sort of person who knows how to charge a battery up. Modern cars are a real pain in this respect. With older cars, like my first Morris Minor, I could easily charge the starter battery up in the car, or if needed take it out and charge it in the garage. Modern cars seem to make this very difficult. Some cars have fairly pathetic batteries, so if the car is left undriven for a few weeks they won't start. I don't want to have to do any call outs during this lockdown period - so I'd suggest finding a valid reason to drive your car a few miles and giving it a treat.Originally Posted by struth

Flat batteries - avoid these
I was just talking to a friend of mine, and he suggested a trickle charger plugged into the cigarette lighter would mitigate against this kind of problem. I've never tried one of those, but if they work could be a really good idea. He said it worked on his current car - an Audi.
We have just ordered food from a local deli, so hopefully our car will start, and will get a bit of a charge in driving over there.
Note though, that the trickle charge suggestion is just that - it will only top up a battery, not charge one which has run down.
Another issue is keeping the tyres pumped up - to avoid going near petrol stations. I think I have an electric pump which will do that, but never used it for that purpose. It was bought as a battery charger, but has an airbed pump as well - which I think will do tyres. One should monitor the tyres every few weeks, as it's easier to top up a tyre which is only slightly down, rather than one which has gone completely flat.

Trickle charger will work, other than that start it weekly and run for 15 mins or so. Make sure you rev above 2k when you start it, some ECU’s will not start charging until revs go above this.
