    Default Vinyl or CD ?

Well both for me but read on

Due to the probably OCD way I listen to music I put a great LP on Sunday morning
    Jerry Goodman - It's Alive

Recorded very well especially when you consider it is a live performance
9 out of 10 for music,
but hey stop, what's going on ?
Detail, width, dynamics, air, space I haven't heard before when listening to the CD, which is looping around in the 'listen to quite a lot before filing away rack'

Must be imagining it...no there really is more there than I've heard before

Soaking in the whole album was great. I revelled

Ok some science later in the day, compare the CD to the LP to see if my marbles went.

Yes there is a big difference.
    This is a big 'upgrade'
As albums go this is rare on CD or LP.
Well worth seeking out and buying.
    CD or LP ?
    Both

Looking at the kit I currently have the Technics has a bit of a head start over the Isis, but not that much

    Took me by surprise.
Helps that I know the CD so well. Haven't listened to the LP for many months and some upgrades ago
Previous quick comparison was Ry Cooder - Bop til you drop. Vinyl ahead for sure, but not by so much. Was a quick comparison though

I like and use both. When listening to a record it always amazes me how much more rich and warm the sq is ok. with records there is the odd tick or pop but to me this adds to the character of vinyl.

Bop til you drop is a dire, early digital recording but the vinyl version still sounds preferable to the CD. Having said that, my early copy of Bop is missing the right channel on 'Little Sister' - so the CD scores for me on that track only..

In spite of being less convenient I like the fact that vinyl is more of an experience to set up, like going through the ritual of roll-your-own versus a cigarette. Generally less bright too.

I have always been surprised at how good it sounded espceically being the first digital

I think a lot of 90,s stuff is very digital orientated but 60,s/79,s was designed to be analogue and sounds better for it...even the tracks layout was designed to fit an lp.
as for sound, vinyl usually sounds better, but not sure if it is because it is or because there is a little more distortion in the harmonics making it sound richer. funily I often use a valve buffer to play older style music on CD for this reason.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

A lovely description and one I would echo.
