It's bollocks anyway, I know someone who works at the one by me for years now, he says it's fine. He's not afraid of a bit of hard work though.

I doubt the work there really is hard though. These days "hard working" just entails getting out of bed each morning and turning up In the olden days it was just called "having a job".

And you try telling the kids of today that, and they won't believe you.

It's not a case of the work necessarily being hard, but the long hours, being at your employer's constant beck and call, re overtime, etc, and essentially the demands put on your time and how that impacts on your personal life - which as a result these days is often non-existent!

All right if you're single with no family, and only yourself to consider - but otherwise simply horrendous. People need to be able to LIVE, rather than merely *exist*.

There's too much of that in the workplace these days, with bosses running roughshod over their staff, as because they're *desperate* for the job (often in order to pay significant debt), they can push them to the limits. Then when they do get a day off, they're too frazzled to do anything other than sleep...!

What sort of a 'life' is that?

We need stronger unions, and more of a militant mentality in the workforce, instead of subservient sheep!

Thank you. Morning rant now over

actually the hardest job physically i did was working in the refractory brick works. 32ton a day to make bonus. Took you a while to get fit enough and your skin to get hard enough, but once you got there it was a breeze. Just shut your brain down and graft.

When I was younger I used to opt out so I could do 70 hour weeks, as I needed the money.

'Hard work never harmed anyone.' That was what you used to hear from the older generations when I was a youth.

Occasionally you;d get a boss who thought they were god almighty and start pushing people around, they never lasted always got sacked or left because that's counter-productive in the long run.

My hat goes off to you Grant, you've had some really tough jobs. I doubt many youngsters today could or would do that, I know I couldn't.

My job certainly isn't tough, apart from some shit weather. Anita's dad always calls me hard working every time we go on holiday or buy something nice. As in 'well he works hard, he deserves a holiday'. All I have to do is turn up when I said I would, and never have any 'sickies'. Piece of piss really.
