I was on a boat. I didn't fall off but you know like in 'Jaws' where the only way to get from the front to the back of the boat is along a narrow little ledge down the side which is always dead slippy? That's what it was like.

Whoever designs boats has obviously never been on one.

Southern softies you see, by which I mean anyone south of Chorley Maybe I just got lucky, but had a lot of good weather days up Ullapool way over the years. My worst ever sunburn was at Achiltibuie June 1976. Probably underestimated the strength of the sun. After the scabs fell off everyone assumed I'd been to Spain.

I do not consider that names that have been familiar for generations in England should be altered to study the whims of foreigners living in those parts. Without a firm stand the B.B.C. will be pronouncing Paris 'Paree.' Foreign names were made for Englishmen, not Englishmen for foreign names- Winston S Churchill.

'They' keep arsing around with place-names. I still call Bombay 'Bombay', not Mumbai, same for whatever we're supposed to call Calcutta these days. And Burma's still Burma, not some random collection of consonants.

As for Welsh names, most of them are just the English word with a few letters changed, like ambiwlans for ambulance and ffôn for phone.

It was a school trip venue in my day, as was Llandudno. We visited the latter in our last year at primary school (what's now known as Year Six) and robbed the place blind. This was before the 'only two schoolkids allowed in the shop at one time' rule was introduced. Indeed it may have been why that rule was introduced.

Childhood summer holidays were also mostly spent in Wales, at Prestatyn holiday camp when I was a nipper, then in a farmhouse on Anglesey for several years in my teens. It always seemed to be pissing it down in Anglesey, but my sister got sunstroke there one year, so the sun must have shone occasionally. We used to drive there in my uncle's Humber Super Snipe, all packed in like sardines, with no seatbelts or any of that nonsense, and before speed limits were introduced on many rural roads.

It's still Conwy. Did you spell Rhyl earlier as 'Ril', or Llandudno, as 'Landudno'? No, so......
