I know where you're coming from, but I'm sorry, I simply don't buy the notion that they don't understand what a plain black coffee is, i.e. one without any milk. You don't need to be a 'free thinker' to understand plain English.

Lol... A Macchiato is simply an espresso, with a shot of hot-milk foam. It just adds a little creaminess to the finish.
It's rather nice and would be my coffee of choice, if I wanted a small strong coffee, but one that was a little 'longer' than an espresso. You should try one, as I think you'd like it! I'll make you a Macchiato next time you visit
A 'Mocha' is simply a milky coffee, made with chocolate, and often topped with whipped cream. Not really my thing, as it bastardises an otherwise good coffee! It's a bit like having cheese with fruit in it. However, each to his or her own.

I'm a latte lover but homemade and a dash of liquor in. Vanilla or gingerbread. Usually the latter of late. Getting the milk right is the trick to a latte. It shouldn't be foam. It should be closer to a light double cream or a partial whipped cream
